Triglav (2864 m) is not only the highest mountain in Slovenia it is also its national symbol. Thus climbing Triglav is one of the most Slovenian things you can do. As the Slovenian saying goes, in order to be truly Slovenian you must summit Triglav at least once in your life.

Normally climbing Triglav takes 2 days. On the first day, typically you start from Krma valley and reach one of the huts below Triglav’s summit. Most of the crowds choose Kredarica Hut. Thus we are avoiding this hut and using another one close by. From the valley to the hut it takes around 5 hours of easy hiking (1400 vertical meters). The following morning, we continue to the summit which takes between 2 and 3 hours of climbing. Although the last part of the Triglav climb is fixed with cables, the rock is very slippery and the climb is exposed and needs to be treated with respect and awareness. Your guide will keep you on the rope the entire time except for the summit.

From the summit with a bit of luck, you can see all the way to the Adriatic coast on the south, the Dolomites to the west and the Austrian Hohe Tauern on the north.  The descend down to the valley takes us around 4 hours.

Climbing Triglav is possible all year round. However, in time of the year when it is covered by snow, the ascent is on a different level than in summer time. Thus, for most people new to mountaineering, the best time is between the beginning of June and end of October.
